Already trained as a Personal Care Aide and ready to expand your caregiving skills? Interact Caribbean Homecare Training Center LLC provides a structured PCA-to-HHA upgrade program that builds on existing personal-care knowledge and introduces additional health-related responsibilities through classroom, laboratory, and supervised externship training.

Build on Your PCA Experience

Moving from PCA to HHA training means developing a broader understanding of client care and health-related tasks. Our program combines written instruction with skills practice and supervised field experience so students can apply what they learn in settings that reflect the responsibilities of home health care.

Program Highlights

51 clock hours of PCA-to-HHA upgrade training

8 required modules to be successfully completed

Skills competency examinations practiced and completed in a laboratory setting

Curriculum available in English and Spanish

8-hour externship required after successful completion of the written modules and skills re-demonstration

Hands-On Skills Training

Skills are not simply discussed in the classroom. Students practice and demonstrate required competencies in a laboratory setting, giving them an opportunity to develop proper techniques before participating in the externship.

Successful completion of the written modules and required skills re-demonstration is required before proceeding to the externship component.

Supervised 8-Hour Externship

The program includes an 8-hour externship designed to give students supervised experience applying their training in a real care environment. At the externship site, students receive direct supervision with an emphasis on providing personal care and health-related care appropriately and responsibly.

The externship maintains a Registered Nurse Instructor-to-student ratio of one instructor for every three students at the site. This small-group structure supports close observation and guidance while students practice applying their training.

Where the Externship Takes Place

Depending on availability and the applicable affiliation arrangement, the externship may take place in a:

  • Home care setting
  • Congregate care setting
  • Assisted living facility

Externship locations are limited to settings with which the school has an Affiliation Agreement.

What to Expect From Start to Completion

Students begin by completing the required written modules and participating in laboratory-based skills practice. After successfully completing the written requirements and re-demonstrating the required skills, students proceed to the supervised 8-hour externship, where the focus shifts toward applying personal-care and health-related skills in an actual care environment.
